As I predicted. With 10 extra pounds and not a single trainning week over 50 miles, I knew staying strong past 20 would be difficult.
It was, fell apart at 19.5. Still, not bad for not training much.
Only about 2% of runners will finish a marathon in less than 180 minutes (3 hours) After four months of intense training, well at that time (20-25 miles/wk), I ran the Houston half-marathon on January 16th, 2005. It was so grueling, I swore that was it. I'll never do another half, let alone a full. Fortunately a running comrade pushed me to do a full marathon. Rededicated, I set a sub 4:00 hour goal for the full Houston marathon the following year. I trained harder than ever and crossed the finish in 3:59; I was hooked. I've now run 21 marathons and this site is my journal to join that exclusive club of those who finish a marathon in under 180 minutes (3 hours). |

Weekly Recap-2 weeks to New Orleans

Weekly Recap-3 weeks to New Orleans
Sunday.
Bad bad bad. Had 20 scheduled, crap out at 10. Humidity terrible. Legs heavy and tight. Started to have soreness in right hip.
Not good. Overweight and crapout last long run before ending cycle. Well. Keep going.

Had 8 miler GA run scheduled, ran 2 and went to bed.

15 with 4 X 2,000 meter slight inclines
Tuesday.
10 normal pace. Wanted to go to 12, but too bored. Without hills or speed, it's hard to trot along for 100 minutes.
Monday
Thought about 6-8, but I've only run core workouts this cycle. Why start getting serious now. Went to bed.
